20th Annual Bowl-A-Thon

May 3, 2008, at Boulevard Lanes in Anderson, SC

Bowl-A-Thon is an annual fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association - South Carolina Chapter. All funds raised support the full mission of the association providing local support services, research funding and advocacy. Prizes and awards are given for teams raising the most money. High bowling scores are not necessary.

Educational Programs

 “Expanding Our Understanding” Seminars:

For family members who have a loved one with dementia, professionals, social workers, clergy and interested others, particularly in the multi-cultural communities.  These seminars will be presented at no cost in Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg.

  • Mar. 13 - Brain and Heart Health Update and Caring for the Caregiver (African American Seminar)  Royal Baptist Church, 407 E. Hampton St., Anderson.   4-6 PM. Registration and refreshments at 3:30 PM.
    Desmond Smith, MD, will present on the brain/heart connection as it relates to cognition. Chaplain George West will present a session on Caring for the Caregiver through a spiritual coping perspective.  Credits for professionals will be available.  Call 800.273.2555 for more info and to register.
  •  Mar. 20 - Expanding our Understanding:  Alzheimer’s Disease and Communication.  County Council Chambers at County Square, 301 University Ridge, Greenville.  9:30 AM – 12 Noon. Registration begins at 9:00 AM.
    Warachal Faison, MD, will present info on current Alzheimer’s treatments and future developments including research on  a potential “vaccine”; and Jan Merling, MA, will present on effective ways to communicate with the person with dementia.  Certificates of attendence for professionals seeking credits will be available.  Call 866.844.0995 for more info and to register.
  •  Mar. 20 - Expanding our Understanding: Alzheimer’s Disease and Diverse Populations.  Barrett Room, Downtown Spartanburg County Library, 151 South Church Street, Spartanburg.  1:30-4:30 PM.
